This weekend I fell in love with Helen Maurene Cooper‘s depictions of these luscious acrylics.

Blue Star Contemporary’s group exhibition  This Is Not A Photo Show features a selection of Cooper’s 2009  Hard Candy series. “This series of large-scale macro photographs illustrates the details and designs of acrylic hand-painted nails within mountains of confections, piles of glitter, and well-organized girlhood clutter to create novel relationships between material and color.” – Cooper

Hard Candy investigates the aesthetics Chicago’s nail art culture and its relation to the culture who bares them. Irresistible to the eye, these vivid images capture an evolution of artificial beauty, which is only surpassed by the Japanese.

I am officially on the hawt & gaudy on the train, who’s with me?
