Save the Date: El Grado Presents K Space’s Annual Wig Out!

As fall approaches, leaves change, finally (finally!) the Texas sun shows us a little mercy, and your favorite non-profits pull out the stops on fundraising bashes. W&TW will, of course, be holding the always-fabulous Red Hot Red Dot art spree this month (September 16-25). I also want to draw your attention to another great Texas arts organization, K Space Contemporary, in Corpus Christi, TX. On September 25th, K Space will be holding its annual fundraiser, Wig Out, presented by El Grado Tequila.

Wig Out 2009

Like Women & Their Work, K Space prides itself in promoting contemporary and often experimental art. The proceeds from Wig Out go directly to K Space’s exhibition and art education programming. K Space is also an active participant in community events, like the rockin’ Dia de los Muertos block party and the Graffiti Art Project, in addition to regular Art Walks and Open House events.

In its third year, Wig Out has always been about festive hairpieces and fabulous headwear, and this year, they’re adding a funky theme to the mix: comic book characters, superheroes, and villains. Last year, we were blessed with a visit from the cast of the local production of Rocky Horror Picture Show (corsets were atremble!), and this year, the word on the street is that our guest will be Darth Vader’s 501st Legion (I don’t think they’ll be wearing corsets, though). This shin-dig isn’t just for Comic-Con-ers, though. Go classic, or get creative with your get-up. Personally, I’m torn between “Spider Woman,” and a sculptural headpiece inspired by Rat Fink. We’ll see.

This year’s entertainment will feature live music from The One and Lonely’s, and Hester’s Café will be providing assuredly delectable victuals. There will also be a silent auction with original artwork, spa days, and more, plus a chance to win airline tickets from Southwest Airlines.
