Kia Neill: Terrain
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 16th, 6 to 8pm
The artist will be in attendance and will speak about the work at 7pm.
Neill’s art installations envelop viewers in otherworldly environments such as caves or grottos. In “Terrain” Neill sets aside the claustrophobia of enclosed spaces and concentrates on the moment we navigate unfamiliar ground. With synthetic rocks, geodes and moss crawling across and growing out of the floor, stalagmites and unusual forms surround viewers who will walk through a hand built environment that leads through magical moments of surprise and geological discovery. Neill transforms the walls and floor to look like rocks, lichens and crystals. Giant stalagmite formations emerge from the floor as viewers walk through this micro-ecosystem. Neil uses LED lights, CDs, cardboard, paper mache and various plastics to make faux geodes with in the rocky Terrain. This show may make you want to revisit Hamilton pool.
