Thank you!
Big big thank you to all the guests, volunteers and donors who helped make Gala Ganesh one of our most beautiful events ever! You all helped us have a blast raising money for our art education programs and you looked good doing it. Extra special thanks to Big Red Sun for providing the dreamiest party setting imaginable.

Lose yourself
This is an interesting concept. Create a blog, give a pretty broad theme, ask artists to post their work to the blog that fits inside said theme, curate an exhibition from the blog entries. Not only do you get a ton of promo for the exhibition, you create a community of artists. This is what Georgia State University is doing with “Losing Yourself in the 21st Century”. Looks like W&TW alum Yoon Cho just added herself into the running. You should too!

Spring Follies
Oh, springtime. Our MasMasMas Spring Fling last week popped off beautifully. Silky Shoemaker cast a spell on Women & Their Work.
Afterward, No Mas Bodas played the dreamiest sounds. Goosebumps y’all!

Then, with lots of help from fantastic volunteers, we packed up the Texas Biennial show in one afternoon. Next, we set about installing Megan Geckler’s upcoming exhibition Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme. We had some awesome students from Eastside Memorial High helping Megan tie and stretch the thousands of cords of flagging tape that will comprise her site-specific masterpiece.

Megan’s show opens this Thursday, April 16 at Women & Their Work, with a reception from 6-8pm.
And finally, our Gala Ganesh spring fundraiser is this Saturday, April 18th.
Gala Ganesh benefits our Arts Education Outreach Programs, which bring thousands of kids from underserved Austin schools into contact with art and art programs at Women & Their Work every year. It’s taking place amidst the succulents and twinkling lights at Big Red Sun, with an Indian dance showcase by Anuradha Naimpally, a bhangra soundtrack courtesy of DJ Orion, catering by FĂȘte Accompli, and an unbelievable silent auction with art from Julie Speed, Kelly Fearing, Elaine Bradford, Jules Buck Jones, and many more.
